America’s perceptions about the inevitable effects of aging are about to be completely rethought, thanks to groundbreaking new information from an internationally known expert on hormones and anti-aging medicine. Thierry Hertoghe, M.D., has an important message to share: People are aging unnecessarily.
Based on thirty-five years of scientific studies, this is the first book that offers a prescriptive program to counter memory loss, weight gain, wrinkles, shrinking muscle mass, impotence, hair loss, and a host of other signs and symptoms of aging. Dr. Hertoghe offers an effective program of hormone replacement therapy using safe, low doses of natural hormones—in conjunction with a healthy diet and vitamin and mineral supplements—to help people maintain physical, mental, and emotional health and literally restore their bodies to a state that’s three to twelve years younger than their actual age. He identifies the fifteen main, crucial hormones found in the body and explains the process that restores each one to its correct level.
With a foreword by renowned Dr. Barry Sears, The Hormone Solution is filled with self-scoring checklists, eating plans, nutritional prescription plans, and hormone shopping lists that help every reader calculate his or her personal hormone profile. Dr. Hertoghe is revolutionizing the medical field with his work, showing us how to treat chronic illnesses and the large and small aspects of aging by using preventive measures to drastically slow the aging process and its effects without costly procedures and surgeries. The Hormone Solution is a landmark publication that will revolutionize how people age, enabling us to live longer, healthier, and happier lives.
The Testosterone Syndrome: The Critical Factor for Energy, Health, and Sexuality–Reversing the Male Menopause – Eugene Shippen, MD (Buy at Amazon)
Hormones have been getting a lot of interest in the last couple of decades and with good reason: hormones regulate every metabolic process in our bodies. This means they ultimately control everything that takes place in our bodies from growing — to growing old. It was an eye opener to find how many processes testosterone is involved in. We usually think of testosterone as a male hormone that builds muscle and drives the sex urge. But testosterone is involved in many other processes, from maintaining the heart and bones to combating cancer and arthritis. And it is just as important for women as it is for men.
Not only is testosterone covered in this book but also to some extent, estrogen, human growth hormone, and several other hormones. We are enlightened that it is not a single hormone that regulates our body but several hormones that work in synergy to maintain our health and well being.
For anyone who wants to know the role that testosterone plays in his or her life, I highly recommend this book. In fact, it states right in the book that: “What you’ll need, if you plan to get back some of your youth and hold onto all aspects of your health, is a physician who believes in the value of hormone testing and treatment and who is willing to work with you to determine your present physical status.” It is imperative to work with a specially trained Doctor in Age Management Medicine, the only anti-aging program accredited by the American Medical Association.
The book does suggest four things you can do to help yourself: exercise, diet, nutritional supplementation, and hormone replacement. The first three you can find in many books and articles on health. The fourth one requires getting a properly credentialed doctor who is knowledgeable enough to properly diagnose your condition and carry out the correct treatment…which may not be an easy task.
The Sexy Years: Discover the Hormone Connection–The Secret to Fabulous Sex, Great Health, and Vitality, for Women and Men: Suzanne Somers (Buy at Amazon)
Suzanne Somers offers excellent inspiration to march forth and take control of this stage of health. Much of the book covers her own experience of menopause, including some detail on her breast cancer. She advocates the use of natural, bioidentical hormonal replacement, available through a variety of creams and supplements–it’s a rare page that doesn’t gush about the power of these substances or raise negative issues about the use of synthetic hormones. Introductory medical information is included on how estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone work together to keep people healthy and active; the vocabulary is understandable and generally entertaining rather than overwhelming. She provides interviews with a variety of doctors and women in various stages of menopause. These interviews will give women a good place to start with topics to address with their own medical providers. While a short index of doctors and compounding pharmacies is provided, most women will have to do their own research to find local natural hormone specialists. But if you’re looking for a boost of courage to bring up these treatments with your doctor–or simply want to investigate more natural alternatives to the standard synthetics–this is a fine place to get started. –Jill Lightner
