A woman’s bones will reach their maximum lifetime density at around the age of 35. After that time, the bones begin to slowly lose mass at the rate of about 1% each year. Once a woman reaches menopause, the process accelerates to double or quadruple its previous rate. As a result bones become porous (a condition known as osteoporosis). With each passing year, the bones become more
brittle and susceptible to breakage.
Unfortunately, there are no clear external symptoms of osteoporosis. Most cases go undiagnosed until a break actually occurs. Sadly, by then it is often too late. Of women over the age of 65 who break a hip, an estimated 50% die within two years. Even sadder is the fact that the bone weakness which made that 50% more susceptible to fractures could have been avoided with ongoing natural estrogen replacement.
Estrogen does more than just stop the process of bone loss in women, it reverses it. Estrogen stimulates the body to release vitamin D and calcitonin into the system and makes it possible for calcium to be put back into the bone, instead of just being stripped away. As a result, studies show that women on estrogen/progestin therapy don’t just stop losing bone density, they actually gain some back. Density loss in the hip and spine, the two areas most likely to be injured by a woman with osteoporosis, is virtually eliminated.
However, because of the rapid acceleration of bone loss after menopause, women who wait until much later in life to begin natural estrogen replacement therapy will likely never have the strong, healthy bones that they had in their younger years. As with many of the other benefits of life-long estrogen replacement with bioidentical hormones, the longer a woman waits to begin, the less benefit she will get. For this reason, any woman who is entering into menopause should strongly consider talking to a hormone specialist. A doctor who is knowledgeable in the field of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) can evaluate your specific hormone levels and needs and talk to you about what it means for your bone health, now and in the future.

REVITA Anti-Aging recommends you consult a specially trained Age Management or Anti-Aging Physician before starting bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT). Bioidentical hormones should only be taken when clinical deficiencies are found by
a trained physician via lab testing. REVITA Medical, PC physicians perform evaluations and specialized testing to qualify patients
for treatment.
